Keitsa Brisson

Keitsa Brisson. Early Childhood at Country Day School

Primary Principal

I think I have been a teacher forever, I can remember teaching the dolls in my playhouse as a young child. However, I began my formal teaching career in 1995 at an inner-city school in Atlanta, Georgia after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Southern University. I went on to teach in the US public school system for 16 years before moving to work in the US university system where I taught graduate level teacher education courses and in adult education outreach programs. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to teach a variety of ages; I have worked with students at every grade from Preschool to adult - with the exception of High School.  Aside from classroom teaching, I have taught teacher training courses and worked with adult literacy outreach programs. I am certified in English as a Second Language and have extensive experience in working with both adults and children in this area. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, I hold  Master’s degrees in Curriculum and Leadership, a Reading Specialists for grades PreKinder - 12, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in Pedagogy. I have specialized training in Montessori education and pedagogy at all levels of development and am certified in Leadership of Inclusive Education.

I have been living outside of the US since 2008. For the past 12 years I have been a teacher and administrator in international schools in the United Arab Emirates and Costa Rica. I have been the Early Childhood Principal at Country Day School since 2014; in 2020, I have expanded this role to Primary Principal in working with our Elementary and Early Childhood community. Throughout my career I have gained knowledge and inspiration from my fellow educators. I have been fortunate to have many mentors who have shared great expertise with me and reminded me of the joys being an educator bring.

I love the mild climate of Costa Rica and the many adventures this beautiful Central American country has to offer! I enjoy reading, swimming and animals. However, my passion is learning; which I feel is best accomplished through travel. I have a thirst for learning about cultures and hearing the stories of others and travel helps to quench this!
