Margie Stanfield

Margie Stanfield - Country Day School

ELA Teacher

Born and raised on a large farm in Virginia, I developed a love for animals and adventures. I didn’t have any brothers and sisters so I learned quite early that imaginary friends and animals were wonderful. I remember telling my first-grade teacher that when I grew up I wanted to be an Indian or a teacher.

I hold an Associate Arts degree from Anderson College and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Erskine College, both in South Carolina.

I spent my summers attending the University of Virginia and teaching in the Head Start program. Later I received my Masters in International Teaching from Framingham University. My teaching experience includes kindergarten through tenth grade. I have taught Ancient Civilizations, Eastern Hemisphere Cultural Geography, Western Hemisphere, ELA, mathematics, and drama.

I also have three years of experience as an elementary principal. I have lived and taught in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Germany, and now Costa Rica.  Costa Rica has been my home for many years and I find it amazing.  I have been at Country Day School for over thirty years.

I have four children and ten grandchildren. I enjoy completing crossword puzzles, theater and collecting things from countries around the world.

My flair for drama has given me the opportunity to direct theater for Country Day and The Little Theater in San José. I have created the International Cultural Fair, The Story Festival, Seventh Grade Entrepreneur Fair and directed the Summer School program here for ten years. I also work with groups from Country Day School in Feeding Souls. This is an organization where we feed, clothe, and take care of the homeless in Escazú.

Teaching is my passion. I believe every child has the right to learn and it is my duty to discover the best way to accomplish that. I find teaching challenging, exciting, and even dramatic. Each day and each class are a new production and each student is a unique and valued character.
