CURRENTLY: I am thrilled to finally be realizing a long-held desire to join Country Day School Costa Rica by engaging with my favorite subject, Social Studies, AND my favorite population of humans, Middle Schoolers. Throughout my teaching career of almost 30 years and this last decade in Thailand, I have had the privilege of spending my time among a diverse group of young people, learning continuously for myself and my students, sharing my love of history and active citizenry, and involving students in global issues and current events.
PAST: I grew up in rural Kansas, U.S.A., where my daughter and son are the 5th generation, and it’s still my home base. Initially graduating with a Sociology/Psychology degree, I worked with at-risk youth for a decade until acquiring a second degree in Education, then teaching in private schools in California and international schools in Thailand.
FUTURE: Pursuing a course of active labor and God-ordained passions, cultivating a ‘spirit of
thankfulness’, growing in grace, cheering on my kids, hosting family and friends and strangers, paying it forward, expanding my horizons, and getting to know Costa Rica and the CDS community.
A favorite quote: “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming – WOW – What a Ride!” I have found Middle Schoolers to be the best companions in this pursuit.
