Before coming to CDS, I was a professor at the National University in Heredia, teaching future high school art teachers. I returned to the classroom to better understand the dynamics at this level. I have enjoyed it so much that I have remained at the high school level teaching HS Art, Pre AP, and AP Studio Art and Sketching, and all the while, helping students to develop their skills and their passion for learning, in the many areas of their future careers; from future architects to surgeons.
The success of my students in their AP Studio Art Portfolio, at a third-year college level, involves no less than twenty-four artworks in 2D Design, 3D Design or Drawing, scored by a jury of seven to twelve college level members.
My experience as a recognized artist, in both public and private collections, include pieces in the Permanent Collection at the Contemporary Art and Design Museum, Archivio del Moderno at Università della Svizzera Italiana and the National Museum in Lithuania. I have won first prize at the Costa Rican North American Cultural Center Fausto Pacheco Contest. I have participated as an artist and have coordinated the contest, Café Britt murals at their main offices and at their coffee farm Beneficio Tierra Madre in Heredia. I have also been a curator and jury member for Costa Rican National Art Scholarships, and Ministry of Culture, together with workshops in the United States and Europe offering valuable experience and a solid foundation as for how to guide my students’ artwork in developing a strong portfolio and achieving success in their institutions of higher learning.
