They have been ‘beavering away’ during lunchtimes and have been working just as hard at home to ensure that they complete their novels and reach their word count goals. For many children this was their first experience of writing at such length but for some, like Teresa in Year 6, this was her fourth year of entering and should be classed as a bit of a pro! We have lost a few children along the way, as it is a real commitment, but I am pleased to say that we had over 20 winners from Years 3 to 6.
A challenge such as this gives our students the opportunity to develop and embed attitudes associated with high performance learning such as perseverance, risk-taking, creativity, confidence and collaboration. The children who completed their novel are also championing the growth mindset agenda by believing in themselves and their ability to tackle difficult tasks without giving up when the going gets tough.
Well done to everyone who participated but a huge ‘congratulations’ to all the winners. The children will receive two printed copies of their completed books as a prize. One student in Year 6 has already started writing her novel in preparation for next November! Will you join us next year?
