English
After the holidays Year 4 will be focusing on non-fiction texts linked to our topic How Humans Work. Students will be looking at different texts and learning how paragraphs are organised around headings and sub-headings. In addition to this, students will be learning how to identify key sections and words from texts, putting them into note form and then rewriting non-fiction texts in their own words. There will also be a grammar focus on tenses as non-fiction texts are usually written in the present tense.
Maths
In maths Year 4 will be continuing to link to our topic How Humans Work. Students will be using the data that has been collected through learning about heart rates, the heart, taking their pulse and exercise, to create graphs. From these graphs, students will be able to draw conclusions and show what they have learned.
Topic
In Topic, Year 4 students will be learning about the heart, how to label it and explain how it works. In addition to this, we will be learning about heart rate; how it is measured, how it changes and how it relates to our pulse. In addition to this, we will be looking at the human skeleton. In particular, which bones are the most important, comparing the skeleton to animal skeletons and learning the names of all the major bones in the body.
