Information and Reminders

Tuesday 30th May – Year 4 ‘Horrible Histories’ rehearsal after school.

As the weather gets warmer, please remind children of the importance of staying safe in the sun. We encourage all children to wear a suitable sun hat at break times, and if you would like to apply sun cream before they arrive at school please feel free to do so.

We will continue to work on instructional writing this week. Students have been working a great deal on writing recipes, ensuring that they include all the important features. We will continue to look at using exciting language to make it more interesting for the reader. During this week, the students will be focusing on their presentation skills as they work towards presenting their recipes to an audience. The focus will be using intonation, tone, volume and action as they present their recipes to be recorded.


In Math next wee,k we will continue our work on coordinate points and translations. Students will continue looking at moving a shape up, down, left and right throughout the four quadrants. We will also be recapping angles and how they can be used to describe and give directions using a compass.  After this, each Maths group will be focusing on areas that we still need work on to ensure that we have really understood the skills we have covered this year.


In topic this week, we will be completing our learning as Geographers and be moving into working as Scientists.  As Scientists, students will be planning a healthy meal for their restaurant. In order to do this we will be recapping our learning about a healthy plate. They will also be learning about how food goes bad or off. Students will be creating an experiment to see what happens to milk if it is left out for a long period of time. After this, the focus will shift to eggs! Looking at eggs, students will learn how a fertilised egg produces a chick whereas an unfertilised egg is a food source. Students will then work on a challenge of finding different ways of cooking eggs. Towards the end of the week, students will start to work as Historians and research different foods that have been eaten in the past. Certain historical periods enjoyed foods that were popular for the time. Groups of students will be assigned a certain famous person from history and have to create a menu for them.
