New Year, New Start
Welcome back Year 11 to your IGCSE year!
A very warm welcome to a new year at NAIS Pudong; I hope you have all had a wonderful and relaxing summer. As I know all parents and students will appreciate, Year 11 is the most important year of your son or daughter’s academic career so far, and this fortnightly newsletter will keep you up to date with all the developments, achievements and events relevant to their educational success.
Although the term has only just begun, I have already been incredibly impressed by the maturity, dedication, strong worth ethic and good humour shown by the new Year 11 cohort. Over the coming weeks I will be talking to each student individually about their personal goals for the year so that I can fully support them to achieve their future ambitions. I can tell that it will be a privilege to work with this group of young people as they undertake this crucial stage in their educational development.
Here at NAIS Pudong we are passionate about enabling all our students to succeed in their academic and personal goals. My role as Year Leader is to continue helping our current Year 11s to achieve academic success, whilst ensuring that they are also personally successful. To this end, I urge all Year 11 students to come and see me in C106 if they have any issues they wish to discuss– my door is always open.
Year Group News and Reminders
New Member of 11B
I would like to welcome Lily Nazarian, our new student in 11B, and congratulate her on the excellent start she has made to the year. The Year 11s have demonstrated their kind and caring attitude by warmly welcoming Lily into the year group. Special thanks go to Antonia Arbert, who has been a conscientious, helpful and friendly buddy for Lily.
I would like to provide a gentle reminder to Year 11 to pay attention to the uniform guidelines set out in their planners. These have changed slightly from last year, and some students have been caught out, particularly with regard to the wearing of non-uniform jumpers. Please ensure that your child’s jumper is the regulation NAIS jumper with logo; it is only at IB that students may wear their own black or navy blue jumper, while students in Year 11 are expected to wear the NAIS jumper.
Phones and iPads
Technology is a wonderful thing and we embrace its use in the classroom at NAIS Pudong. However, I would like to remind students that the use of electronic devices in lessons should only occur when the teacher has sanctioned it. Phones should be kept in students’ bags in their lockers during lesson times, while iPads should be kept switched off in lessons until teachers ask for them to be switched on and used.
Please could I ask you all to check your homes, cupboards, bags and boxes for any books belonging to NAIS that have not been returned? I know how easy it is for this type of thing to get forgotten at the beginning of the summer, but we are now compiling an inventory and it would seem that a number of books given to students last academic year have not been returned. If you have any books lurking at home, if you could return these to the appropriate subject department as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated.
Just a reminder that there are still places available on our fantastic Iceland trip which will take place over the Chinese New Year holidays (25th January 2017-2nd February 2017). This may be of interest to any students who missed the initial sign up in the Summer term. This trip is open to all students in the Secondary School. If you would like to sign your son or daughter up to this trip or would like further information, then please contact Miss Cuskin (email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org).
Secondary Meet and Greet 13th September
I would like to invite you all to attend the Secondary Meet and Greet Evening, which will take place on Tuesday 13th September from 5-8pm. This is an absolutely crucial event for parents and students to attend. Not only will you get the chance to meet all your child’s teachers, but there will also be presentations from the Year Leaders, including myself, about this year’s Project Week. It promises to be an excellent evening and I look forward to seeing you all there.
Upcoming dates for your diary:
Sunday 11th September – Family Picnic 12-4pm
Tuesday 13th September – Secondary Meet and Greet Evening – 5-8pm
26th – 30th September – International Week

With all good wishes,
Mrs Anna Whiteson
Year 11 Leader
