Information and Reminders

  • Miss Marshall will be attending a Nord Anglia Leadership course Monday to Wednesday next week. In her absence, 4C will be split amongst the remaining Year 4 classes with Miss Snow and Mr Kalff. Miss Andrews will teach Miss Marshall’s Maths group. Miss Marshall will return to school on Tuesday evening for Academic Review Evening, but at the later start time of 6pm.
  • Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. We have sent activities home with the children for you to try with them and their reading books. We are wanting Year 4 children to read at home at least 3 times a week. If you read with your child at home please mark inside their learning journals for their class teachers to see.
  • Homework is sent on Wednesdays and must be returned on Mondays to be marked. Please make sure you encourage your child to complete it on their own and inform us if they found the activity challenging so we can further support them in school. They can sign up for homework club on Thursdays and Fridays which is first come, first served.
  • Don’t forget to check Class Dojo to see how many House Points your child has been collecting and to see posts of what is happening in your child’s class.

In English next week we will be beginning to look at our new book “Atlas of Adventures - A collection of natural wonders, exciting experiences and fun festivals from the four corners of the globe” by Lucy Letherland. We will begin by using the book to help us to write fact files on a country of our choice. During the week we will consolidate our knowledge of using simple organisational skills, organising paragraphs within the fact file around suitable themes and using conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions.

Guided Reading: In guided reading this week we will be practising being able to read and perform play scripts. We will be looking at ensuring we use tone and intonation to have an impact on our performances.

Spelling: In our spelling lesson this week we will be focussing on being able to correctly punctuate possessive plurals through the use of an apostrophe.

During our maths lessons next week we will be continuing to explore being able to tell the time. We will start the week by solving problems involving converting from hours to minutes and minutes to seconds. From here we will look at being able to convert between weeks and days and years and months. At the end of the week we will look for the first time this academic year at being able to record money. During these lessons we will focus on the use of the decimal point and the part it plays in the use of money.

In topic lessons next week we will be getting ready for our exit point on “Chocolate”. We really hope you can attend and see all of the hard work that the children have done during this topic. Also, we will be starting our exciting new topic “Gateways to the world.” We will begin the topic with our entry point. From here we will become geographers by looking at maps and locating places on our own personal map. We will find and highlight our home country, places we have lived and places where we have travelled. Alongside this, we will also plot the equator, lines of longitude and latitude.
