Whilst the first two challenges were led by teachers, the School Council have now decided on the Primary Challenge for next week – using good manners – and this was introduced in this week’s assembly. Our focus now is to encourage our students to be polite to others and use good manners, not only in school, but at home and outside of school too. Yesterday we discussed what this might look like: saying please and thank you; meeting and greeting others by saying good morning or good afternoon; holding a door open for someone as they enter, and being respectful of others in general. No matter how old or young our students are, we know that being polite and using manners goes a long way and will be remembered by those they come into contact with. I am pleased to say that the majority of our students do use their manners on a regular basis and will probably find this challenge very easy. However, it is always good to be reminded of how effective a simple ‘please’ or ‘ thank you’ is when giving a response. I was also very proud of the fact that our School Council decided that this was a topic on the top of their list to introduce as a challenge, as it clearly means they feel it is an important attribute to possess too. Our School Council really are a very thoughtful and pro-active group of students.
To finish the week, our Primary students have today been learning about the United Nations, UNICEF and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, which links to this year’s Global Campus Global Challenge. Today in primary our students are learning what the 17 Global Goals are, which include: Renewable Energy; Quality Education and Clean Water and Sanitation. Each class is going to be looking at one of the goals in more detail and thinking about what we could do to have even the smallest impact on achieving the goal. All students have been invited to create a poster to represent one of the goals, which will soon be displayed in school. Please look out of them next time you’re in school.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.
