  • Preston Rachel Staff

    Rachel Preston

Year 6 Class Teacher and Head of EAL

    Rachel Preston

After studying English at Liverpool University and completing teacher training at Manchester University, Rachel started working in primary schools in London. She worked primarily in Key Stage 1, and after two years became Infant Phase Leader. After moving to Shanghai to broaden her experience of different educational settings (and out of a passion for going on adventures!), she joined the NAIS Pudong Infant Leadership team in 2014. After one year, she joined Junior School, where she has been teaching Year 5 since 2015.

Professionally, Rachel has always strived to develop her skills in teaching English and Drama. Having worked in a children’s bookshop before becoming a teacher, she has a passion for children’s literature. Rachel spent two years completing her Masters at the Institute of Education in English Education, where her research focus was on the role of critical reading in young children. Since then, she has worked on developing phonics teaching and promoting creativity in reading, and is currently Nord Anglia University’s Teaching Fellow for Literacy. At NAIS Pudong, Rachel was Primary English Subject Leader and Year Group Leader, before taking on a new role as EAL Leader from KS1 to KS3.

    Hannah Smith

    Year 5 Class Teacher

    Hannah Smith

Hannah attended the University of St. Mark and St. John in Plymouth, England to study Primary Education.  After receiving her degree (B’Ed Primary Education with Mathematics), she returned to Kent and took a job in a local primary school as a full time class teacher in Year 5.   She spent two wonderful years there, developing and growing as a teacher.  She chose to specialise in Mathematics at university, as it has been a favourite subject of hers from a young age.

During the Summer between her first and second year teaching, Hannah decided to travel around Europe to visit new places and learn more about different cultures.  She thoroughly enjoyed her time travelling, and this encouraged her to pursue opportunities outside of the UK and Europe.  She has loved meeting new people and expanding her knowledge of the world, and has always wanted to visit and explore China and other areas of Asia.

  • Finan Brad Staff

    Bradley Finan

    Year 5 Class Teacher

    Bradley Finan

Brad’s background was originally in Criminology and Sociology where he gained a BA Hons degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. In his early career, he spent 2 years working in children’s homes and 7 years working as a Youth Offending Officer for Rochdale Youth Offending Team. Both of these roles involved working with children, families, schools and a range of other agencies to prevent offending behaviour and re-integrate children back into the education system.

After becoming involved in charity work for ‘The Shamwari Project’, a local charity offering English lessons to refugees in the UK, Brad decided to pursue education as a full time career. He studied at the University of Sunderland and completed his PGCE. Brad joined NAIS in 2010 and has thoroughly enjoyed becoming immersed in the NAIS community, working alongside wonderful teachers, students and parents. He considers Shanghai as home and looks forward to continuing his journey at NAIS Pudong well into the future.
