Student Fundraiser Helps Homeless Animals in Shanghai

On the last day before Chinese New Year, students across the school wore red or came to school in traditional Chinese dress, to celebrate the Chinese national holiday and raise money for charity at the same time.

Mr Shrewsbury making the donation to JAR on behalf of students at BISS Puxi.

There a quite a few volunteer organisations in Shanghai whose sole objective is rescuing domestic animals in the city, taking care of their medical needs and finding homes for them.  One of these organisations is Jayia Animal Rescue (JAR) who we supported through our Chinese New Year Red Day fundraiser.

Our students raised 8,000RMB for JAR from our Red Day and this weekend Daniel Shrewsbury, Year 6 teacher and our Eco & Charity Coordinator went down to their most recent adoption day to donate the money. JAR’s adoption days are opportunities for people interested in rescuing animals to get together and find out more about JAR’s programme and meet the animals that are in need of recusing.

Mr Shrewsbury adopted his two dogs, Pearl and Momiji, from JAR so knows a lot about the work they do:

“Everyone at JAR was extremely grateful for the donation and it's great to be able to assist and help these dedicated people and animals in need in any way we can.”
