Future Focused Schooling

18 April 2014

Life in a fast moving and technological society means that new careers, industries and global challenges are both inevitable and unpredictable.

This demanding new world increasingly requires people who are creative and flexible, able to manage change, and who can work collaboratively with others yet are able to maintain a strong sense of self. In response therefore, schools must move beyond a traditional model of knowledge acquisition and adopt a more future-minded approach to education. We must ensure that we are preparing our young people to effectively and meaningfully fulfil their individual and societal roles in this future society.

At BISS Puxi we are confidently rising to this challenge. Our High Performance Learning approach to education and our cognitive curriculum mean that all our students develop the ways of thinking, behaviours and character to succeed, not just at school but also beyond in life and work. Based on cutting edge understanding of learning methodology and cognitive development, our highly skilled teachers create classroom climates and exciting learning experiences that inspire and support the development of high achievement, developing communities of vibrant and confident learners. We do not want children just to “know” but also to really be engaged in higher order thinking; to develop a passion for learning and to be constantly asking and seeking answers to questions.

This requires us to be proactive in creating meaningful opportunities and experiences throughout each day, in school and beyond, to help all students to develop a powerful learning skills toolkit that includes; Creating, Analysing, Linking, Practising, Deep-thinking. Through our rich, stimulating curriculum and extensive extra-curricular provision, our students are inspired and challenged as learners. They have exposure to many ways of doing, thinking and being in order that they can develop individual passions and a strong personal identity. We celebrate and exploit the cultural diversity of our international school community to support students to develop a deep understanding of the respect and tolerance needed to be global citizens.

At the core of everything we do, we strive to instil a mindset where young people understand that through hard work, perseverance and risk taking it is possible for each one of them to achieve great things. We nurture them to become confident and determined to succeed, to relish challenge and to follow their passions.  We don’t label people as scientists or mathematicians or lawyers; rather we help them to develop the thinking skills that will let them succeed in whichever field they chose.

We do not know what lives our students will have but as an innovative, future focused school we do know that we are preparing them well for this exciting and challenging journey that lies ahead of them.
