Artists' impressions of the developments to our primary school which will be taking place over this summer.
There is much that will keep us busy and fully engaged as we enter the last phase of term and the end of the academic year. Our senior students have just started their public exams and there are a whole host of important events and trips and activities that will serve to keep us all focussed over the next two months until the end of term.
Inevitably, part of our work in school in this period is looking forward to next year. We are very grateful to all of you who have returned your re-registration letters, but would ask that if you are amongst the small number who have not as yet completed and returned this document that you do so even if it is just to inform us that at present you do not know your intentions for next year. This information is very important to our forward planning especially regarding staffing and class placements. Thank you in advance for your support.
The summer holiday period is a busy period in the school year for maintenance and development. We will again this year be hosting summer school programmes and there will also be a significant maintenance programme across the campus and the final phase of the refurbishment and redevelopment of the Primary School building.
The work this summer is focussed on the ground floor and the 3rd and 4th floors of the building. On the ground floor we are creating a Performing Arts Hub centred around the refurbished Primary Theatre. Clustered around the theatre will be the music department and a new performance space which will be used for dance, smaller drama performances, as an outside stage and as the foyer for the main theatre when required. We will also be reshaping and reconfiguring the administration hub centred around the Head of Primary’s Office and finally we are creating a Parents’ Hub and newly designed foyer. All of this has been made possible by the relocation of the China Regional Team and some of our own administration to the new offices that you will have seen in Baole Lu. All of these alterations are designed to further improve our performing arts provision and make the school an even more welcoming and accessible place.
On the 3rd and 4th floor of the building all of the classrooms and corridor spaces will be redecorated and refurbished to bring them into line with the high quality standards of the learning environments across the rest of the building. On the third floor there will be a number of newly designed and upgraded specialist facilities including two art studios, a science laboratory, a cooking room, a computing science area and a break out space to be known as “the Den.” These changes are designed to create exciting modern learning spaces that are fully equipped to support learning and academic success in specialist subject areas.
Elsewhere in the secondary building the growth in popularity of our IB provision has necessitated a redesign of the IB Academy which will further improve the facilities on offer to senior students. We will also be adding a new Computing Science Suite, a Green Screen Room and an upgraded Media Studies Classroom, all of which will assist staff to continue to deliver exciting educational experiences to our students.
Less obvious but equally important, is the further significant investment that will be made in the air filtration systems in the public areas of the school. This programme follows naturally on from the successful completion of the programme of fitting air purifiers in all of the classrooms across the campus. Significant further investment in ICT will also be made including the provision of a new management information system, upgrades of the existing facilities and additional equipment, the details of which I will share with you in the next few weeks.
