Activity Week - Tuesday's Evening Update

17 June 2014

Catch up with what the students have been doing today…

  • Year 7 enjoying a range of activities on their second day of Activity Week
  • Year 8 learning about wrestling and archery in Inner Mongolia
  • Year 8 camel riding in the Engebei desert
  • Year 9 on Activity Week 2014
  • Year 12 getting stuck into work on camp during Activity Week

Students getting involved in all sorts of activites today, from Mongolian wrestling to building a tree nursery.

Year 7

Year 7 had a great day with showers in the morning followed by the sun coming out in the afternoon. Students who were camping were awakened with a fresh rain shower at 6am!

The day was full of activities for all, including kayaking (which for some was more swimming than paddling) and visiting the sea turtles conservation site and petting and feeding the turtles.

There are a few sunburns this evening, but also many happy faces.

Year 8

Group 1: Last night's walk was stunning and we even saw some shooting stars before bed! Although we woke up to a bit of rain today, the sun came out and the children were split into smaller group to try Mongolian wrestling, dumpling-making, archery and team-building games. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. This afternoon we were treated to a traditional Mongolian show and BBQ.

Group 2: Today we did some hiking, sand-sledding and camel-riding around the sand dunes. We learned a bit about desert wildlife and ate at a local restaurant. Students packed up their own camp then we travelled to a hotel for this evening.

Year 9

A great day! The weather was fantastic and the students had a packed day with trekking, a treasure hunt, paint balling, team building and swimming. They will enjoy a BBQ and a bonfire tonight.

Year 12

Group 1: We have just come back from camp Beng Pae where they all worked fantastically hard to build a tree nursery, renovate houses and build a football pitch at a local school. All is well and students are doing great. We are now in Phnom Penh where we will work at the ISF schools

Group 2: Today we are back at the schools teaching and finishing painting the base coat of the wall. The other group arrives here tonight and we'll all be going together on a Mekong boat cruise.  Tomorrow we head off to the Camp (where the other group has been so far) and everything swaps. The other group will continue painting the mural around the football pitch and teaching at the school.
