Therefore, this week I would like to give a reminder to all those families that are coming back to join us in August of some of the key things that you may want to pick up while you are out of China. This is usually shoes for school uniform: we often have trouble with students arriving on the first day of school with inappropriate uniform as appropriate shoes seem to be difficult to find in Shanghai.
Please ensure as you shop over the summer that your children’s shoes are smart, black and formal. No shoes that are hybrids for instance that looks like a mix between trainers and normal shoes. Shoes and uniform should not look casual. The other thing to clarify is that students will not need cardigans or sleeveless jumpers for school. Cardigans have not been part of the school uniform for a couple of years but there may have been some hand me downs still floating around this year.
If your child is in the IB Academy the boys must be in a smart shirt, tie and trouser combination with a blazer or a suit. The girls need to be in similar business attire with a skirt that is of the appropriate length (to the knee). Nothing shorter than this please. Skirts and boys’ trousers need to be office formal. Nothing stretchy, jeans or chino like in fabric please. Again smart shoes are the order of footwear.
If you have an IB child that is taking Maths you will want to purchase a Texas N-spire CX (not the CAS version) calculator, you can do this individually on Amazon (who deliver to China) but it is normally cheaper to buy this if you are elsewhere in the world this summer.
As you can see, plans are in the advanced stage for students joining us or returning in August and more information will be issued to you next week when we also have the final tracker of the year. For those of you who have had children away on Activity Week this week I am sure you will hear lots of interesting stories and for those of you who have had children on Work Experience I am sure they will have found it an eye-opening experience. After such a busy and productive year, it is now time for everyone to take a well-deserved break.
Have a good weekend.
