The end of the school year is a real mixture of elation and celebration tinged with sadness. The last week of the summer term is a time to look back over the year and reflect on all that has been undertaken and achieved. It has certainly been action packed with a rich variety of exciting educational experiences, most recently the hugely successful activities week, the CAS Trip to Cambodia, the Key Stage 2 Production of Treasure Island and the Year 2 Rain Forest Assembly being just a few of the highlights.
There has also been much to celebrate with individual and group success aplenty over the course of the year, both academic and extra-curricular as reflected in the various prize giving and graduation events over the last few weeks. We can be confident that our students moving on are well placed to take on the next phase of their education.
Amongst the many celebrations it was lovely to be present at the PTA Staff Appreciation gatherings. If the quality and the quantity of the home made food is anything to go by the staff’s inspirational hard work and passion are fully and deeply appreciated by the parent body. The PTA’s own farewell gathering was also a very upbeat occasion and it is great to hear positive feedback from the parents who have worked so hard in a variety of guises to provide opportunities to build the sense of community and provide much needed help to local worthy causes. Further, it was really good to see that so many people have stepped up to take on roles within the PTA for next year and to hear their exciting plans.
The sadness at this time of year of course comes as it is a time for farewells to families who are relocating and some staff who are moving on to new challenges. This is part and parcel of the life at an international school like ours and in many ways it is a strength. The departing students, staff and parents take with them our best wishes and our thanks for their contribution to our community. They will provide the new blood in their new communities and in turn we will have the joy of warmly welcoming lots of new families to BISS Puxi in August who will bring with them the energy and excitement of the move to Shanghai and a wealth of different experiences and skills from their last schools and communities.
There is a lot to look forward to next year. There will be some exciting newly created and upgraded facilities for us all to enjoy as the latest phase of the campus development takes place over the summer. We also have the 10th Anniversary celebrations to look forward to over the course of the academic year 2014-15 and we will be sending out more information about the programme of events to you in August.
On behalf of all of the team here at the British International School Shanghai Puxi Campus, I would like to thank all of the students and parents for their support over the course of the year and to wish everybody a healthy, happy and relaxing summer break.
