Pleased To Meet You…Elaine Wang

04 February 2015

This week we spoke to Elaine Wang, Theatre, Film and Media Technician, to find out more about her job and what her favourite Shanghainese restaurant is.

  • Elaine Wang, auditorium technician at the Birtish International School

How long have you worked at BISS Puxi? I have been working here for a year and a half  after my graduation from Shanghai University.

What do you enjoy most about your role here? I’m really enjoy being the technician in the auditorium, where I am involved in some amazing shows and help teachers and students to work out what they want on the stage. I also love the working atmosphere here because of the professional and friendly staff, energetic pupils and fantastic facilities.

What is your favorite theatre show? Many shows are great, but my favorite is 'Thunderstorm' written by Cao Yu, and it’s a story about the complicated relationships among the members and servants of a large, well-off family. This story is full of suspense, and deeply absorbing, and each character has a strong personality, which makes me a big fan of this play.

You are working with the team to put on A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this year – what are you looking forward to most about working on these plays? Absolutely the success of the performance! Everyone involved in these plays is working very hard. We want the best for these shows.

What do you like to do in Shanghai at the weekends?  I like going to concerts and exhibitions with my friends and I like listening to music and doing yoga to relax.  What I love most is making delicious food at home with my parents, I enjoy the wonderful time with my parents.

As you’re from Shanghai, what Shanghainese restaurant would you recommend to expats living here? I would say Shanghai Classical Hotel, which is located in Yu Yuan Garden. It was found in 1975 and every Shanghainese person knows it. It provides traditional, delicious Shanghainese food and I think it’s well worth a try.
