Pre-Nursery and their Teddy Bear Picnic

25 May 2015

To finish their week of activities based on the story ‘Whatever Next!’ by Jill Murphy, the Pre Nursery children took their own teddy bears on a picnic. Jacqueline Edwards, Pre Nursery teacher tells us about the picnic and how the children are getting ready to take the step up to the Nursery class next year.

Throughout the week the children have been learning about picnics and thinking about what sorts of food is good to take on picnics. They even practiced making their own sandwiches during our cooking session.

We set off at lunchtime armed with our picnic mats, our packed lunches and our teddy bears. Off we went to the big Nursery playground where we found some shade to spread out our picnic mats. The children were very excited to open their packs of rolls, potato chips, and vegetable sticks. Everyone ate well, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

Afterwards all the Pre Nursery children had the opportunity to explore the Nursery outdoor area, some children went on the big climbing frame, others chose to investigate the play house, and others challenged themselves to ride the double trikes. Nearly everybody chose to spend some time in the huge sandpit!

It was a wonderful afternoon, and super to see how much the children enjoyed visiting the Nursery area. We returned to the Pre Nursery unit with our teddy bears, tired but very happy!
