BISS Puxi Girls Reclaim ACAMIS Basketball Title

21 January 2016

The BISS Puxi under 19 Girls Basketball team successfully defended their ACAMIS title in Tianjin last weekend.

They had a tough schedule of 7 games over 3 days against teams from all over China. A commanding defensive display from Laura Kelly in the opening game vs XIS set the tone for the whole weekend - BISS Puxi had arrived and they meant business. Jacqueline Shen, Salla Tuomaala and Da Young Jin all contributed in the vital role of point guard as the team claimed 5 straight victories to top the group in the round robin round.

The strength in depth of the BISS Puxi squad was evident from the superb performances of Barbara Asfour, Meagan Tan and Jiwoo Yoon, most notably in the 58-4 semi-final win against the hosts TEDA.

There was plenty of "wow" moments throughout the weekend; Na Young Jin's pivot and lay up when tightly marked under the hoop, Salla and Jacqui's numerous crossover dribbles and Marit Wienholts' 3 pointer from near the half way line. Amazing! Noelle Heinrich was top scorer in the competition, deservedly earning her an MVP award.

BISS Puxi will bid farewell to some of the group next year but the team spirit that has been formed over the last two seasons will no doubt continue.

Well done to all involved. Special thanks to Ms Byfield for all the stretching sessions after the games which kept the girls in tip-top shape!
