Parents & Students Come Together for Maths Evening Event

25 February 2016

On Tuesday 23 February, we held the first ever Parent and Child Maths Evening event.

  • Maths Parent Event

  • Maths Parent Event

It was great to see twenty families at the event, and to see they were all fully engaged in solving the Maths problems presented.

The children were able to choose between two mathematical activities, the first of which was to try to continue a sequence of step pyramids and to work out how many cubes would be needed in the base of the next few pyramids.

It was fantastic to see the children and their parents working together. As Maths Curriculum Leader for the school, it was really great to hear them discussing how they would draw the pyramids on their isometric paper to allow them to correctly identify what the sequence was going up in.

In the second activity the children could have chosen, they and their parents were asked to look at the patterns in Pascal’s Triangle. Both the children and their parents clearly enjoyed identifying the patterns in this activity, while discovering how much Maths there is in one famous triangle.

It was very rewarding to be involved in an evening of great learning and one in which everyone had tremendous fun.

This activity was of course part of Maths week which we will have a full round up of next week.
