BISS Puxi Students Win Awards in Shanghai Student Film Festival

24 March 2016

On Friday 18 and Saturday 19 March, we took over 20 Film and Media Studies students to participate in the annual Shanghai Student Film Festival.

  • Shanghai Student Film Awards
  • Shanghai Student Film Awards

Friday’s activities saw our students collaborate with those from other Shanghai schools to make a short film in an eight-hour time frame. Our students did the school proud with their hard work and produced some excellent work both behind and in front of the camera.

BISS Puxi students were in groups that came first, second and third when the films were scored. Our congratulations go to Pearse McGuigan, Sarah Hughes, Freya MacKenzie and Amber Hollis who achieved first place.  Emma Boogaard and Maaike van Tilborg (joint second place) and Julia Smieszek & Sebby Patient (3rd place) also deserve our congratulations

On Saturday, students attended workshops on make-up and 3D modelling, run by Vancouver Film School. Several screening rooms displayed student films entered by schools across Shanghai, including a number from BISS Puxi. The afternoon saw the festival’s official awards. We were delighted and proud that many of the films we entered into the competition received awards or Official Selection status.

Sarah Hughes and her team achieved first place in the Best Drama category for Grace, while Lara Crockart’s Scarlett Red achieved 3rd place. Pearse McGuigan’s Just in Time achieved second place in the Best Sci-Fi/Action category and Eelinn Vanquaethem won 3rd place for Best Comedy for Two Girls One Guy. These categories were extremely competitive and our students must take great pride in gaining recognition on a city-wide level.

Congratulations to all the students who participated and entered their work this year!
