Together families and friends were constructing different vehicles that moved, so it was not just Science that could be seen, but Technology in action too. Children love creating and making things whatever their age. They enjoy experimenting with different ideas, thinking and planning as they seek to improve their inventions; the curiosity and problem solving that such learning and activities evoke is a pleasure to see…and many parents enjoy taking part just as much – I saw that on Wednesday!
Parents tell me how much they enjoy coming to these workshop events. They get a chance to share in their children’s learning and actively participate and support them. They get to see first hand the enthusiasm and confidence that we teachers are privileged to see our children display every day. And they also have fun together, whether things go well or not, and we know that fun and enjoyment is so important to motivate children to be inquisitive and keen learners.
But on another level we recognise that, in this ever changing world that children are growing up in, Science and Technology are key subjects for children to learn about. That is why at BISS (Puxi) we are looking forward to our partnership with the world renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Working with MIT will help us create an environment, a curriculum and experiences for the children that will take them into the future, confident and knowledgeable in these important areas. Watch this space as we find out more about this exciting and unique partnership as it unfolds!
So as the holiday approaches why not encourage your child to be a creative scientist? Check out these websites that will give you ideas and spend time experimenting, constructing and learning together:
Happy holidays! Enjoy!
