First we visited a traditional Suzhou compound garden which had picturesque pagodas, ponds and rainbow bridges. While in the garden, one of our tasks was to ask the locals some questions to practice our Mandarin, many were happy to answer the numerous questions about hobbies and preferences. We also have a competition to say Hi to many local people and get as much greetings as we can. We were soon get popular in the garden and very welcomed by visitors.
In lunch time, we tasted some local delicacies at a famous restaurant called Song He Lou to experience the cultural differences. We play Heads up games to guess in Chinese while waiting for dishes.
In the afternoon, we visited Suzhou museum and were impressed by the many perfectly preserved ancient artefacts including jewellery, pottery and scrolls, some were over 2000 years old ! Overall, we enjoyed being able to visit some of Suzhou's finest locations and we were pleased to have been able to work on our mandarin with native speakers.
