Campus entry for parents 2021-2022 Parent and visitor entry to BISS Puxi campus has been restricted during the last 18 months as the school has followed the guidelines of the SEC (Shanghai Education Committee). There are clear criteria in place relating to travel, health and daily entry for pupils to the school grounds.

Parent and visitor entry to BISS Puxi campus has been restricted during the last 18 months as the school has followed the guidelines of the SEC (Shanghai Education Committee).  There are clear criteria in place relating to travel, health and daily entry for pupils to the school grounds.

We are now looking closely at workable solutions for opening the campus more fully for the wider school community.  We have already been working with our BISCAP providers in swimming, dance, football, basketball, and tennis to allow all of their athletes on to the campus.  This has been very successful in enabling us to have more members of the community on-site, whilst at the same time following the required entry protocols.  My thanks to our BISCAP partners and Thomas Hitchings for developing workable solutions.

We’d now like to take this model, alongside the SEC guidance, and look at activities or events that take place at the school, to determine which of these can be opened to parent entry on campus.  Below, we’ve identified selected activities/events that we believe will be open to parents to join at the school.  There were several criteria that we had to consider when assessing those that may or may not involve parents on campus:

  • Indoor or outdoor activity: outdoor activities are easier to allow for social distancing.
  • Location of activity within the school: there is a need to minimise surface contact by visitors.  Deep cleans can help to manage this.
  • Timing of activity – within or after normal school operating hours: after-school activities are more straightforward as there is likely to be less contact between pupils and visiting parents.
  • The number of parents potentially attending: this should be less than 50.
  • Availability of nurses: a requirement is to always have the clinic open in order to follow protocols when a high temperature is recorded.
  • Adherence to current entry requirements relating to travel and health: as a school, we must have the capacity and staffing be able to register (in advance), details of visitors to the school and to check green QR codes

We’ve taken a close look at the school calendar for the rest of this term and plan to allow parents the opportunity to attend the following on-site events:

  • BISCAP weekend activities (09:00-14:00):
    • BASH Football League
    • SportEd Tennis
    • Community football (adults, after 18:00)
    • Community netball (adults, after 18:00)
  • Competitions or performances in the following activities:
    • BISS Lions Swimming
    • Gymnastics
    • Dance
    • Basketball
  • Parent Workshops
  • ‘School of Rock’ Secondary Performing Arts Production
  • Sinterklaas at Shanghai Dutch School

This may change, depending upon the lessons we learn as we move ahead, or if there are SEC changes introduced, but we are optimistic that this will allow us to welcome parents on to the school campus.  For the events and activities listed above, either the school or one of our BISCAP providers will be in touch with parents of students involved to outline sign-up requirements, and attached are the protocols that will need to be followed by visitors to the school.

CAMPUS ENTRY PROTOCOL

Introduction

The purpose of this protocol is to outline conditions under which we can safely welcome parents and students on to our campus for activities while adhering to guidelines and requirements relating to COVID19 prevention.

Entry to the campus

  • Entry gates have been equipped with thermal imaging cameras. All people entering the site should do so through designated entry gates to enable temperature checking to take place.
  • As students and staff (from outside providers) pass through the entry points, security personnel will check that:
  • Their name is on the list for entry.
  • Their temperature is below 37.3°C .
  • In the event of a temperature scan above 37.3°C, the visitor will be directed to the screening tent while school medical personnel are alerted.

Student Access

It is the school’s expectation that students should avoid non-essential travel out of Shanghai.

Students who have travelled to a low-risk area outside the city must do the following before entry to campus:

  • Exhibit no symptoms such as fever, cough, or fatigue.
  • Obtain a negative Nucleic Acid Test from a Shanghai clinic, no more than 48 hours before returning to campus.
  • Report travel destinations to the school receptionist. Students from other schools who are coming for Saturday activities should report this information to their coaching company.
  • Wear a mask on entering campus.

Important note: If a previously low-risk travel destination becomes a medium or high-risk area, we may require that student to submit to other requirements such as remaining off-site for 14 days.

Parents and Visiting Adults

Parents and any other visiting adults who are invited to campus must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Exhibit no symptoms such as fever, cough, or fatigue.
  • Those who have stayed within Shanghai for the previous 14 days should confirm this through a travel app.
  • Those who have travelled to low-risk areas outside Shanghai should obtain a negative Nucleic Acid Test from a Shanghai clinic, no more than 48 hours before coming to campus.
  • Complete and sign the ‘BISS Puxi Community Commitment to School Safety’ online form (see below).
  • Wear a mask on entering campus.

Guidelines for parents and visitors while on campus

Parents or visitors on campus will be required to adhere to the following:

  • Fully cooperate with security personnel with all requirements to enter campus as described above.
  • Wear a mask for the duration of the time on campus.
  • Remain in outdoor areas in proximity to the activity, as defined by the activity leaders. Toilet facilities in the Sports Corridor may be used but parents and visitors should not enter any other part of the school.
