MESSAGES

  • Thank you to all the parents who came to cheer on the Cubs at their indoor sports morning. The children had a great time and they always love to see you there.
  • We hope you will have a relaxing long weekend and will be ready for more exciting learning experiences!
  • With the changeable weather we are having please make sure your child has a named light weight coat to wear outside when its cooler and a sun hat for when it gets hot!  We do try to get outside every day.

LEARNING THEME

We have rocketed into a new Learning Theme this term: SPACE. We began to think about our space journeys last week but with so many exciting things happening we need some more time!  We will be continuing to develop our stories, planning them carefully, before we write and illustrate them.

Our Big Question is: What is your Space story?

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE

We will explore the children’s ideas and models and use these to plan a Space story for role play. We will ask some key questions to get us imagining a journey into space.

Who is going on the mission?

How will we get there?

What do we need to get ready?

Where will we go?

What is our mission?

What might happen if…?  

We will draw pictures and write simple captions of what should happen first, then, next and finally. The children will act out their imaginary journey into Space alongside their friends.

Key Vocabulary:  Space, moon, planet, rocket, satellite, stars, sun, asteroids, journey, spacesuit, helmet, boots, food, exercise, plan, before you set off.

Development Outcomes

Speaking

Uses language to imagine and recreate roles and experiences in play situations.

They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.  

Understanding

Answering ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events.

LITERACY: WRITING

Following the planning of our stories through talk, role-play and drawing, we will start to write them. We will think about sentences and which words we need to add description to our stories.

Key Vocabulary; story, letter, word, sentence, space, full stop, describe.

Development Outcomes:

They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

PHONICS

Puffer fish- We will learn new sounds oe (as in toe), au (as in launch) and ey (as in key). We will practise reading tricky words looked, time, your and called and we will learn how to spell were and use it in sentences. We will continue to practise and apply all the sounds we have learned to date.

Sharks – We will learn the new graphemes; oy (boy), ir (girl), ue (blue) and aw (paw).  We will practise the recognition and recall of Phase 2, 3 and 4 graphemes as well as practising reading and spelling words with adjacent consonants.  We will practise reading and spelling high frequency words and polysyllabic words. 

Octopus- We are going to keep on with their writing this week.  We have lots of back to front letters so we are going to focus on letter formation this week.

Jellyfish- We will be reading and writing simple captions and sentences using our sounds and tricky words. We are finding the digraphs 'th' and 'ng' quite tricky so will be practising being able to identify these sounds in words and also being able to write these sounds correctly e.g. 'r-i-ng and not r-i-n' and 'th' not 'v'.

Starfish- We are working so hard on blending the sounds together to read and have begun to recognise, and read, the Phase 2 Key Words and Tricky Words really quickly. We will be focusing on writing them now, using our phonics to segment to spell phonic words accurately. 

MATHS

The children will continue learning about time and we will build on their understanding of a second, minute and hour and recap days of the week and months of the year. This will also link to the children’s story telling and being able to talk about past, present and future events.

Key Vocabulary: time, second, minute, hour, how long? days of the week, months of the year.

Shape, Space and Measures:

Children use everyday language to talk about time to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems.

Communication and Language - Speaking

They use past, present and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future.

MANDARIN

This week the children will talk about time.  We are going to encourage the children to review the numbers and recognise numbers on the clock in mandarin. We will play a game which is called “What’s the time, Mr. Wolf (lao lang  lao lang ,ji dian le)?”

Key Vocabulary:  time  时间  (shijian)     clock 钟  (zhong )     number  数字(shu zi)  

morning   上午 (shang wu)   afternoon  下午 (xiawu)    evening (wanshang)

DUTCH

De poes en de hond van juf Cindy zijn  ziek.  De poes moet naar de dierenarts voor onderzoek en hij moet een spuitje krijgen.   Het hondje krijgt een verband om zijn poot.  We praten over de lichaamsdelen van de dieren en hoe we ze best verzorgen.

In ons `Dierenwinkeltje`vinden we deze week alles  onze huisdieren nodig hebben.

In Villa Letterpret oefenen we op het analyseren van klanken in dierennamen. De letter van de week is de `i` van vis.
