Week Beginning 13 June 2016

BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming/ECAs – Term 3 last week will be 13 June.


  • Please ensure your child has a named sunhat to wear at school for the summer term.
  • Learning showcase- During Term 3, Year 1 have been learning about our theme ‘Plants and Insects’ We would now like to give the students the opportunity to share some of their learning with their parents. The children would like to invite you to their ‘Learning Showcase’, which will take place on Tuesday 21 June from 2:45-3:25 in the Year 1 classrooms.
  • Art Exhibition- This term, Year 1 have been learning lots of new techniques during their Art lessons. They would now like to invite parents to view their work at their Art Exhibition. The children’s work will be on display next to Stage One throughout the week beginning 20 June.


This week in Literacy we will be practising our questioning skills from last week and will be preparing questions to ask about Year 2! We will also be creating lovely stories about what we think a day in Year 2 will be like.


Puffer Fish- Phase 6- The Puffer Fish phonics group will be revisiting all of the spelling rules and prefixes and suffixes which we have learnt this term. We will then practise spelling and including the Year 1 tricky words when writing sentences.

Starfish – Phase 5 - This week the children will learn the alternative pronunciation of ‘ch’ and ‘a’. They will learn to spell polysyllabic words such as: machine, chalet, schooling, faster, apron. They will also learn to read and spell the High Frequency Words: work and friends.

Jelly Fish- Jellyfish will continue to learn how to use their Phase 3 sounds to support their spelling. This week’s word focus is; think, thank, blink, skunk, slept, drift.

Stingray – The Stingrays will focus on the ow/ou sound and  ie/I.  We will learn that ‘ou’ rarely comes at the end of a word, and practise the spellings sound, found, mountain. We will also practise reading and spelling tried, spied, denied.

Octopus - In the Octopus group this week we will be using our phonics skills to read and write lots of sentences, sounding out all the new words we’ve learned. We will also be practising lots of tricky words.

Sharks – Phonics Sharks will be focussing on our phase three tricky words this week, such as: you, they, was, we, all and my.


In Maths this weeks we are reviewing our shapes topics, extending what we know about 2-D and 3-D shapes.  We are also looking again at simple fractions, using fruit, Lego and making wall charts to support this learning.


The children will continue to develop their painting skills this week by learning about the primary and secondary colours through learning about the artist Mondrian.


Maths- 2-D shapes, 3-D shapes, properties, faces, sides, corners, edges, grouping, fractions, halving, quarters, sharing.

Literacy- questions, question marks, statements, answers, punctuation, stories, fiction.

Themed Learning – art, primary and secordary colours , paint, shading, mixing , photos, edititing.


De kinderen van year 1 werken verder aan hun superheldenhandboek.  Ze lossen allerlei problemen op op school en verwerken deze in hun superheldenstrip.  Heeft u een prangend probleem?  Super Kat,  Super Mega, Mega Sophine, Super Voetbalheld, Super Hond en Super Wisse staan voor u klaar!
