Week Beginning 20 June 2016

Learning showcase- During Term 3, Year 1 have been learning about our theme ‘Plants and Insects’ We would now like to give the students the opportunity to share some of their learning with their parents. The children would like to invite you to their ‘Learning Showcase’, which will take place on Tuesday 21 June from 2:45-3:25 in the Year 1 classrooms.

MESSAGES

  • Break Times - Please ensure your child has a named sunhat to wear at school for the summer term.
  • BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming/ECAs – Are now finished. There are no more this term.
  • Library Books – Please search high and low for any library books that you may have, or school reading books.
  • Art Exhibition- This term, Year 1 have been learning lots of new techniques during their Art lessons. They would now like to invite parents to view their work at their Art Exhibition. The children’s work will be on display next to Stage One throughout the week beginning 20 June.

LITERACY

In literacy we will be practising recounts, and drawing on what we already know to write lists, find information in non-fiction texts and write postcards.

PHONICS

Puffer Fish- Phase 6- The Puffer Fish phonics group will be continuing to review all of the spelling rules including prefixes and suffixes which we have learnt this term. We will then practise spelling and including the Year 1 tricky words when writing sentences.

Starfish – Phase 5 - This week we will revisit the Phase 5 sounds we have learnt this term and focus on using these sounds to spell 2-syllable words. We will also continue to practise reading a spelling Year 1 tricky words.

Jelly Fish- Jellyfish will continue to learn how to use their Phase 3 sounds to support their spelling. This week’s word focus is; spark, spring, stap, stomp, speech.

Stingray – Next week we will be comparing the differences between oy and oi, as well as er and ir.  We’ll practise the spellings annoying, enjoy, and noise as well as skirt, shirt and bird.  The Stingrays will also read the tricky words people, house, and about.

Octopus - In the Octopus group this week we will be using our phonics skills to read and write lots of sentences, sounding out all the new words we’ve learned. We will also be practising lots of tricky words.

Sharks – Sharks will be practising reading and writing phase 3 tricky words and writing them in sentences.

MATHS

Next week the children will be consolidating and applying their knowledge of multiplication.  Throughout the week we will be focusing on multiplication as repeated addition, counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, drawing a multiplication number sentence as an array and finally using these skills to work out some multiplication problems.

THEMED LEARNING

This week we will develop our mapping skills through creating simple maps and classroom plans for the Reception children. The children will learn the definition of ‘Bird’s Eye View’ and create a floor plan of their classrooms. They will also create a floor plan of their dream classroom and a simple map of their route to school.

Literacy- questions, question marks, statements, answers, punctuation, stories, fiction.

Themed Learning – art, primary and secordary colours , paint, shading, mixing , photos, edititing.

DUTCH

De kinderen van year 1 hebben de voorbije week heel wat heldendaden verricht op school.  Op basis van hun ervaringen stellen zij enkele superheldentips op voor ons superheldenboek.

Deze week beginnen we aan het verzamelen van ons topwerk van dit jaar.  We kijken terug naar  foto's van het voorbije jaar en schrijven enkele leuke herinneringen neer.   Wat hebben we hard gewerkt dit jaar!
