Dragon Boat Festival Holiday: School will be closed on Thursday 9 June.


  • Please ensure your child has a named sunhat to wear at school for the summer term.
  • School Photographs - You can still order pictures and have them delivered before the end of term.  There are two deadlines - 26 May and 2 June.   If you have registered at , still have your viewing card, or kept a record of your Sitting ID you can still order pictures online right now.  Alternatively if none of these applies please contact Pret-a-Portrait directly on 0800 021 7626 or<> or contact the school office.
  • BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming/ECAs – Term 3 last week will be 13 June.


In Literacy this week we will be looking at ‘Questions’; what the important words are, how to use a question mark as well as asking and answering questions. We will look at the difference between a statement and a question and we will try to form questions we have about Year 2.


Puffer Fish- Phase 6- The Puffer Fish phonics group will be focusing on the use of prefixes. This week we will focus on adding  ‘re’ to the start of words. We will focus on the vocabulary- rearrange, refill, rewrite, replay, retell, recycle, redo and rebuild.

Starfish – Phase 5 - This week the children will learn the alternative pronunciation of ‘ea’ and ‘er’. They will learn to spell polysyllabic words such as: seaside, reading, ready, water, bigger. They will also learn to read and spell the High Frequency Words: through and eyes.

Jelly Fish- Jellyfish continue to learn how to use their sounds to support their spelling. This week’s word focus is; brush, sport, growl, scoop, frown, speech

Stingray – Throughout the week we will focus on the ee/ea sound and the ay/ai sound.  The Stingray’s will learn that ‘ay’ is usually used at the end of a word, and practise the spellings paint, rain, spray, today. We will also practise reading and spelling the words tree, free, repeat, least, and the tricky words don’t, old, and I’m.

Octopus - This week in the Octopus group we will be reviewing the letter consonants we’ve previously learned as well as reading and spelling tricky words within sentences.

Sharks –Phonics sharks will be learning the ‘er’, ‘air’ and ‘ure’ word endings both in reading and writing.


In Maths this week we are working on position and direction.  The children will be turning into robots to practise what they know about left and right, as well as half and quarter turns.  We will be working with Beebots (programmable floor robots) as well as using dance, song and written work to support this learning.


This week in Themed Learning, the children will continue with their art work in the style of Eric Carle and will take and edit photographs. They are looking forward to you showing you their amazing artwork in a few weeks time.

Literacy- questions, question marks, statements, answers, punctuation.

Themed Learning – art, caterpillar, paint, shading, mixing , photos, edititing.


De kinderen van year 1 maken de eerste hoofdstukken van hun superheldenhandboek op?   Hoe kan je kan op school heldendaden verrichten?  Breng je elke dag je superheldenpak mee naar school?  Deze week bedenken we ook een oplossing voor een van de grote dilemma’s van groep2: hoe kan een superheld vliegen? 

Ook deze week zullen de kinderen verder werken aan de Cito-toetsen.
