- ECA/BISCAP/BISSLIONS Swimming Term 2: will start the week commencing 11 January.

In Literacy, we will continue to build up our grammar knowledge by practising further examples of complex sentences and interesting openers. Hopefully this will make us confident enough to use these in our writing this week, where we will be continuing to think about ‘Being Ambitious.’ This week, we are moving through the writing process of drafting, redrafting and editing, and producing final versions of our ‘Being Ambitious’ project, and are looking forward to seeing some outstanding pieces of writing.
This week the focus will be on addition and subtraction. The children will practise and improve formal column methods to calculate, increasing their efficiency and familiarity with these methods. They will work on problem solving activities which require manipulation of figures and they will be expected to apply their skills to investigative tasks. There will be a specific focus on improving subtraction methods, which involve decomposition.
In Themed Learning, the children will be exploring matter that makes up everything in our world. They will identify the three states of matter and develop their understanding of the properties that distinguish them. Following this, the children will plan, set up and carry out experiments that show changes in state, allowing them to conclude that matter can change. It will be an exciting week of problem solving and collaborative work which will engage the children’s prior knowledge in order to facilitate new learning.
Students will discuss the importance of respecting personal space and boundaries. We will also consider and understand why and how rules and laws are made and enforced.
Over the course of the next few weeks, classes will work with Lego Wedo equipment. This is designed to teach modelling and programming skills to children. This year the focus will be on learning and exploring the mechanical aspects of the model and determining how they can change instructions to improve and develop the movement. The children will be encouraged to write their own programs and use their understanding to create models which work in similar ways to the examples.

Maths - addition, subtraction, sum, difference, total, decompose, inverse, estimate
