Saturday 23 April is the annual Garden Party which this year has “a twist of Shakespeare” as the theme. Again this year, we want to encourage students, teachers and parents to wear a great hat – the more unique the better. The show will go on! Come rain, hail or shine, this Saturday’s Garden Party will take place as scheduled from 1pm-4pm. We are well prepared with a wet weather plan so all the fun can continue and you can expect to have a great time regardless of the weather. We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday. Get those hats and shields ready and come and join the party!

- All children will compete in each of the activities as they move around a range of stations throughout the morning; there are also plenty of rest areas planned in order that the children can drink and get some shade. Some activities will be based around fun games and some will have a more athletic feel but all will be competitive with all the points going towards a final Year 3 and 4 sports day result.
This week, the students will use their learning from the previous two weeks to write their own adventure and exploration stories. They will use the plans which were created last time in order to write narrative, thinking careful about the characters, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they would fit appropriately into the setting which they create for the story. The students will also think carefully to ensure that the grammar and structure which they use enhances the quality and content of their writing. Finally, they will review each other’s stories and think about how to peer assess and improve their narratives.
This week, we shall be reviewing and practising solving problems using time. The 24 hour clock will be a continued focus of learning and the children will learn to calculate time differences and express time using different formats. Children will work with different time zones and look at how timetables are constructed, learning to interpret information. We shall also review calendars and seconds completing investigations which will support their understanding and reinforce concepts.
This week we will look at the explorer Zhang He. In Art we will be using watercolours to paint landscapes of small mountains like we visited the previous week. In Science we will be creating experiments to test ‘How to keep a drink cool?’ using a selection of insulating materials. During circle time we will discuss anti-social behaviour and racism, considering how we react to such issues and how we can challenge them.
Students will continue to create computer coding to create games.

De Razende Reporters van SDS werken verder aan het Dagblad van SDS. De rubrieken zijn verdeeld onder de leerlingen; iedereen is redacteur van een bepaalde rubriek. Alle leerlingen werken mee aan de ‘live’ sportverslagen. Ook oefenen we het nieuwslezen.
Spelling en woordbeeld
We herhalen met spelling in elke groep de klankengroepen (letterdief, letterzetter, 2-tekenklanken en poortwachter).
Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette
Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).
Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell
The children will be looking at traditional Spanish dance. They will learn a few dance moves and have an introduction to basic prepositions.
The homework this week is a revision exercise re: previous vocabulary.

Next week we will be continuing our topic on clothes. Homework this week is to label a picture showing the different clothes being worn by either yourself, a celebrity or a friend/family member. You could use a photograph, a drawing or a picture from the Internet/ magazine/ newspaper.
Year 3 / 4 French – Miss Rae
In French next week, we will be continuing to learn about telling the time. We will learn half past, quarter to and quarter past.
Homework this week is to complete the table with the correct phrases. Je joue, je regarde and j’écoute.
Year 3/ 4 French: Miss Wood
This week we will be starting a new unit on describing the children’s homes. They will learn new vocabulary based around rooms and how to describe those rooms. There will be a specific focus on masculine and feminine nouns. The children will be encouraged to use phrases from previous units to lengthen and improve simple sentence construction.
Homework: to prepare for the unit by using Linguascope, Beginners Ma Maison section to review previous vocabulary.
