ECA/BISCAP/BISSLIONS Swimming Term 2: will start the week commencing 11 January.

MESSAGES

  • International Week begins on Monday 21 March and the whole school parade is on Friday 25 March. If you are returning home for the holiday you may wish to think about a costume for your child as this might be easier to source whilst on vacation. Pupils will be asked to come in wearing the colours of their flag or any national dress associated with your country.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

LITERACY

In Literacy, we will be working on a project called ‘Being Ambitious.’ We will think about things which we would like to achieve in the future. We will use real life stories of ambition and success to guide us. To help our writing to be interesting, we will also be concentrating on using complex sentences and different ways to open sentences in grammar. There is further information on the Global Campus under Literacy. Maybe you could ask your family about their ambitions in life?

MATHS

In Maths we will be revising the place value of each digit in a four-digit number (thousands, hundreds, tens, and units), ordering and comparing numbers beyond 1000 and  and estimating numbers using different representations.

THEMED LEARNING

Next term Year 4’s Themed Learning topic is entitled Active Planet.

We will ‘launch’ the topic by watching some short video clips showing the awesome and devastating power of the active planet in the form of volcanoes and earthquakes and encourage children to consider questions. In the first few weeks we will be investigating changes of state in Science lessons so that children can apply this knowledge to understand how volcanoes and earthquakes occur. We will construct a large volcano as a year group together during  Art lessons. Students will present their learning to parents in a Learning Showcase toward the end of the term.

PSHCE

Students will consider and understand why and how rules and laws are made and enforced. This will be linked to a tsunami warning system.

VOCABULARY

Literacy – Compound sentence, complex sentence, ambitious, hopes, achieve

Maths– figure, greater, bigger, larger, smaller, less than, between, order, digit, place value,

Themed Learning – awesome, volcano, earthquake, tsunami, tectonic, devastating

DUTCH

Koken, bakken, braden...
