During this week in Literacy, the text focus will be Letters. To begin, the children will look at a range of letters to recognise their purpose and the audience they can be written for. This will lead them to examine formal and informal letters to identify the similarities and differences in the language used, correct structure and letter layout as well as content. Emotive language will be the vocabulary emphasis, amongst various grammar tasks reinforcing complex sentences with commas.  Finally, the children will write their own letters as their preferred explorer in order to send information to a recipient about the details of their famed expedition.


This week we will be focusing on problem solving with data handling.  The children will experience a variety of tables, graphs and charts and learn how to interpret data in unfamiliar formats by reading information carefully. They will be challenged to sort data, independently deciding the most efficient and effective ways of presenting the information. The children will also deepen their understanding of line graphs by looking at distance/time graphs.


This week in Themed Learning the children will be planning their own expedition! They will be considering where in the world has not yet been explored and why they think this is. Once they have decided on where they would like to go they will be researching that area and deciding why it is they want to go there and what exactly they want to find out!  They will also be conducting further experiments this week, this week they will be trying to decide how they can keep a person warm.  These ideas will be bought together in Art when they will create and sketch an imaginary place and paint half of it using cold colours and half of it using warm colours, making sure they mix lots of tints and shades of each.


Students will continue to create computer coding to create games.

Dit was het nieuws

De Razende Reporters van SDS werken aan hun laatste twee artikelen voor het Dagblad van SDS. Over een week moet het dagblad af zijn, dus de redactie zet alle zeilen bij om de deadline te halen. Sommige ouders zullen verrast worden door een onaangekondigd interview. Wij hopen dat dit niet teveel overlast oplevert en dat de reporters zich niet te opdringerig gedragen.

Year 3 en 4 krijgen een gezamenlijke krant en Year 5 en 6 ook.

Spelling en woordbeeld

We herhalen met spelling in elke groep de klankengroepen (letterdief, letterzetter, 2-tekenklanken en poortwachter). Het automatiseren van deze spellingmoeilijkheden is voor veel kinderen een enorme klus. We steken er daarom extra tijd in.

Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette

Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).


Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

This week we will be continuing to review prepositions and follow basic instructions to complete simple dance routines.  We will also be revising the ever-changing weather!

Homework this week is to create a dance routine to share with the class.  We must be able to direct them with their steps (left, right, etc.).

Next week we will continue with our clothes topic-looking at adjective agreement and descriptions.
Homework this week is to consolidate the learning so far by competing in the quiz. 

Year 3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood
We shall be working on consolidating vocabulary to describe our homes. The children will use prepositions to describe where furniture is located and what is on, inside or under the furniture, colours and size to describe appearance of rooms. They will be encouraged to expand upon simple ideas.
