On Monday 7 March there will be a Year 6 Residential Parents' Question and Answer session. 3.45-4.30pm in Stage One. Information booklets will be sent out prior to this event.
- Uniform: Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies. They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions. Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
In Literacy this week we will be beginning a fantastic unit of work on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This will begin with an exciting experience involving three talented actors performing for the year group in Stage 1. We shall then use this to begin learning about Act 1 of this wonderful play, where Macbeth and Banquo first encounter the witches and receive their prophecies.
In Maths this week we will be learning about averages. We shall consider the purpose of finding averages and then interrogate a series of graphs to generate our own. We shall also be completing an assessment to see how far we have progressed this term and what new skills we have learned. We shall finish the week by setting our own targets as to what areas we need to focus on to improve.
This term our Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. As we continue with our project we will begin looking at batik in art, creating beautiful and intricate patterns using hot wax and dyes. The children will move through a design process, learning from the work of professional artists.
In PSHCE this week we will continue to focus on fostering new relationships as we have had a number of new students join our year group, creating rules and expectations for the classes and how to work together successfully. We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead.

Het nieuwe thema heet: ‘Dit was het nieuws’ en gaat....inderdaad, over het nieuws. De kinderen verdiepen zich in de wondere wereld van de journalistiek waarbij nieuwsberichten, radioverslagen, onderzoek en kranten de revue passeren.
Grammatica en spelling
Naar aanleiding van de uitslag van de Cito-toetsen zal er in het programma meer ruimte ingebouwd worden voor spelling en grammatica. Ook zetten wij vroeger in op werken met het werkwoord en werkwoordsvervoeging.

Year 6 French – Miss Caldwell
The children will continue to build upon their vocabulary describing how art effects their feelings and will begin to use this to build sentences. They will use more ambitious adjectives to describe artwork.

Students will be writing about themselves and the countries they come from. They will also be doing further work on the weather. .

Year 6 Spanish - Ms Watson
In Spanish next week we are continuing to learn the vocabulary that is used to describe art; emotions, colours, shapes and opinions.
For homework this week students will find a piece of artwork by Picasso and describe it using some of the terms they have learned.
