Week Beginning 20 March 2017

World Water day – A little reminder that Wednesday  22 March is World Water Day.To support water saving charities we are asking that each child brings 10 RMB and wears blue clothing on this day to bring awareness to this important world issue.

  • On Friday 31 March we will end our international week celebrations with a dress up day. Children are asked to come to school wearing something that represents their country. This day has a wonderful community feel and we look forward to seeing lots of national dress.

The Reception classes are continuing to look at ‘Spring’ and the different aspects of it.  This week the five Reception classes will all be busy planting. Each child will be encouraged to plant and grow their own sunflower, starting with a single seed, a cup and some soil. It will be up to each individual child to take care of their own sunflower and watch it grow.

As we are holding World Water Day this week, the cubs will be looking at the importance of water – for growing our plants and much more. We will be looking at the story “OneWorld” by Michael Foreman to help the children to understand why water is so important and how we can help to keep it clean and not waste it.

The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’,  working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your children’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practise at home in line with their learning at school.

In Maths we will be looking at measurement. Using our plants and elements of the natural envornment as our objects, we will be measuring to see how tall or long they are. The children will be invited to measure using blocks, plastic snakes, pencils, rulers or whatever they think might work.
