MESSAGES

  • Primary ECAs – Please remember that there will be no ECAs Tuesday 31st  and Thursday 2nd  due to the Parent Teacher Conferences
  • Giving Tree – Each year, Giving Tree aims to provide children in need with a gift bag full of winter clothes and school supplies.  Please support this worthwhile cause.
  • We kindly ask that parents stay in the playground in the mornings and encourage their child to come up to their classroom with their teacher and class.

LITERACY

In Literacy we will have an introduction to Poetry.  This offers a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their language skills through their creativity and recent experiences.  We will use the children’s excitement from our new topic’s entry point (read more about it in STEAM) and our most recent trip to the Zoo to encourage their writing about animals.

MATHS

In Maths we will continue to focus on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  The homework reinforces this learning, please use the 100 square to aid your child in locating the next number in the sequence.  There are many good songs that you can locate on-line to assist in this learning.

STEAM THEME

We begin our new topic, Go Wild!  We will start our week by enthusing the children with clips from the movie, Madagascar.  This is our entry point to the new theme and will act as the basis for our lessons over several weeks, culmination with another exciting week in the Da Vinci centre, the last week of term.  After their screening, the children will be tasked with using clay to create a character from the movie.  The children will also learn about different types of animals, such as amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds and insects.  The children will collaborate to group animals correctly and use iPads to record their findings.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

The children will learn how to code and develop their coding skills through a computer programme on laptops.  They will learn that they can make an item move by giving it clear instructions.

PSHCE

During circle time the children will be introduced to autumn, and understand changes in the seasons. We will focus specifically on the differences between summer and autumn, as well as discussing what winter beholds.

DUTCH

De kinderen van year 1 gaan deze week gaan we op zoek naar de `Grote Gevaarlijke Grompel`.   Heb jij ooit al een  Grompel gezien?  We  gaan samen op `Grompeltocht` .  Wat neem jij mee op Grompeltocht?  We maken een lijstje en zoeken `grompelwoorden` met de  letter `g`.
