LITERACY

Next week, we will be continuing our fairy tales.  In order to engage our readers, we will be editing and improving our work, focusing on the use of ‘showing’ language.  In order to help our readers imagine HOW things happen, explore the use of adverbs in stories, and create an adverb list to use in our own work.

READING SKILLS

This term, the Year 3 team will be focusing on developing the children's reading comprehension skills. This week, the children will be focusing on working out the meaning of new vocabulary from context.

MATHS

Maths next week will have the children working on their subtraction skills and applying all of their knowledge of addition and subtraction. We will continue working on solidifying their knowledge of the vocabulary used and how to use more formal written methods.

STEAM THEME

Our focus will be on magnets and force. Children will be given opportunities to compare how things move on different surfaces. We will discuss that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance.

Children will observe how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others. Following on from this they will compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of whether they are attracted to a magnet, and identify some magnetic materials.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

For this half term, the Year 3 children will be building on their computer programming skills from last year and be introduced to loops and if statements through Espresso Coding. This week, they will be using variables and timers to create games where they can try to beat their best score.

Next week the children will be continuing their work on Being Ambitious! Alongside being academically ambitious we will be continuing our discussions about thinking ambitiously and developing children’s core skills which will underpin all that they do. In KS2 wordt nu hard gewerkt aan een spel.De leerlingen hebben verschillende spellen en handleidingen bekeken om inspiratie op te doen. Nu ontwerpen ze  zelf een spel met als thema “de klas”.  Ze ontwerpen zelf het bord, de handleiding, vragen- en opdrachtkaartjes.

Spelling werken we verder in Blok2. Ik zie dat er thuis ook goed geoefend wordt met BlOON. Heel erg goed, ga zo door!
