Week Beginning 18 December 2017

We are looking forward to welcoming all our classmates and families back to school on Tuesday 9 January! Have a lovely holiday, relax, celebrate, stay warm, happy and healthy. Merry Christmas from us all.

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please can you save any cardboard boxes, plastic tube etc for the KS2 Production, and send them in with your child. After the holidays we will begin making our props.
  • Juilliard Flash-mob Challenge: Over the Christmas Holiday, the PE Department Challenge you to record yourself in the most obscure place doing the Julliard flash-mob dance. Please send your video to n-manley@bisspuxi.com by Wednesday 10th January 2018. If you are unable to send it please see Miss Manley in the PE office and she will assist you. The winner will be announced in January.

LITERACY

Welcome back! We will return to our theme of Greek myths this week, recalling what we learnt before Christmas in the first instance. We will then be using our knowledge of Greek myths to plan and write our own myths, making sure that the features of different stories are included, such as strange beasts, Greek gods and heroes! We will be using the mythical beasts created previously as the basis of our own myths and legends.

MATHS

During the first week back, the children will be focusing on multiplication. They will be revising and building on their existing skills through a variety of games, problem solving and investigation based activities. The children will also work on their  formal multiplication skills and begin to calculate problems featuring decimals. In preparation for this week, it would be helpful if the children could practise their times tables at home to improve their accuracy and speed.

THEMED LEARNING

In theme this week, we will be going on an archaeological dig! We will dig up some Greek artefacts and see what we can learn about them, and learning about the differences between primary and secondary sources of evidence. We will also be learning about two important places in Ancient Greece: Athens and Sparta.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

We will focus on using search technologies effectively to inform our understanding of topics. The children will search for information and develop methods to narrow their search.

PSHCE

This term our new PSHCE / well-being program will begin.  The first core value covered is collaboration.  This is the ability to work constructively with others, and children will learn to negotiate, to resolve conflicts, and to support agreed solutions. In doing so, they will strengthen their sense of teamwork and realize where they lack certain skills; which they can later hone.

Een heel gelukkig nieuw jaar allemaal!  Deze eerste lesweek van het nieuwe jaar staat in het teken van kennismaking met de nieuwe juf. Wat willen de leerlingen allemaal van en over juf Irene weten?

Het eerste thema van 2017 heet ‘Podiumkunsten’. De leerlingen verdiepen zich in de wereld van het theater. In 8 weken tijd werken we weer toe naar een flitsende showcase. Daarnaast werken we de komende twee weken aan de voorbereiding op de Cito-toetsen die vanaf 22 januari afgenomen zullen worden. We oefenen de manier van toetsen voor de begrijpend lezen toets met de methode Nieuwsbegrip. Ook herhalen we alle spellingcategorieën die tot nu toe behandeld zijn, zodat de leerlingen goed beslagen ten ijs zullen komen.
