BA. Ed (Primary), Cert IV Design
Sophie graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Education degree with a major in Special Education Support. Sophie taught internationally in Moscow, Russia and Bangkok teaching the British Curriculum across a range of Key Stage 2 year groups. During that time, Sophie helped lead and develop those schools further as a Literacy Coordinator, assisting in the development of the Accelerated English Programme. Returning to Australia and completing training in the IB PYP Curriculum, Sophie continued to teach for five years there. She took on a Science leadership role, lead writing workshops and was involved in multiple art projects with a variety of schools.
Sophie believes that learning can be fun and puts this at the forefront of her teaching. Her main goal is to engage and inspire children, and to motivate students to do their best and extend their own personal limits. She enjoys working in schools with a strong sense of community and family and has a particular interest in the pastoral care of students, keeping them at the forefront of her teaching. Sophie’s approach to teaching is inextricably linked to the passion she has for travelling and for art and design. She thrives on creating hands-on, diverse and globally relevant learning experiences to engage and inspire children preparing them to be the best they can be beyond the classroom.
Having grown up in a multicultural family with a passion for travelling and adventure, Sophie enjoys cooking having been taught by her German father, a trained pastry chef. She loves nature and being outdoors, the arts, dancing and exploring new places off the beaten track with her three children. Sophie loves meeting new people and is excited to call Shanghai home with all it has to offer.
