Staff Profile: Katherine Cooper


English Teacher

Katherine holds over ten years’ worth of experience as an educator, as an English Literature and Language teacher, TEFL teacher, Drama teacher and as a Media Studies teacher,  having experience teaching in Secondary, Primary, Nursery and International environments.  Prior to joining BISS Puxi, she was employed as a Secondary English Teacher at Doha British School, Qatar. After gaining her BA (Hons) in Theatre Studies and Drama from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2004, she returned to her birthplace, Hong Kong, to work. She worked in a variety of educational settings including at a Learning Centre and Kindergarten for three years and at a local primary school for two further years.   In addition, she worked as a Theatre in Education practitioner on a freelance basis.  During this time, she also created her own theatre company, for which she directed and wrote two productions staged at a local theatre.

Since leaving Hong Kong and gaining her PGCE in Drama with English from Warwick University in 2010, she worked in a variety of London schools as an English, Drama and Media teacher. She is a devoted, industrious practitioner who is absolutely passionate about educational practice and in educating the whole child.   Katherine is especially excited about the prospect of working in the diverse environment of BISS Puxi and lists her interests as amateur theatre, singing and performing in a choir, swimming, drawing and reading. In terms of interests in the field of literature, Katherine is particularly interested in Feminist theory, Shakespeare, Magical Realism and the Gothic.
