Our international community

Though many schools may describe themselves as ‘international’, our understanding of the term goes much deeper than just a label.

With a student population representing over 100 different countries, we are proud of Collège du Léman’s diversity.

International mindedness is actively addressed and cultivated in every dimension of our structure and environment, and we place great emphasis on not just respect but the celebration of all nationalities.

A new environment, a different language and all the stress that comes with growing up are prime ingredients for potential communication issues. This is why our international awareness program, pastoral care and array of creative events and trips are so crucial.

Support

Moving into a bilingual environment can be challenging, but our one-to-one language support and additional classes mean that the transition is as seamless as possible. Pastoral care is of the highest priority, and our pro-active staff network means that each child’s needs are monitored constantly, both in and beyond the classroom.

In addition, we find that our wellbeing program is indispensable to our students’ transition, particularly in a tech-driven world. The non-verbal nature of mindfulness activities, such as yoga, increases their resilience by allowing them the space to understand both themselves and others without the limitations of language.

Food

The stomach knows nothing of communication barriers, and we make sure to take full advantage of the universal language of food. Every Tuesday, our boarders are taken to a different international restaurant in Geneva, always selected with authenticity in mind. On Thursdays, meanwhile, we transform the dining room into three different international restaurants, with students booking tables in their area of choice.

Not only is this sampling of different cultures beneficial to all students, but the pride they feel when sharing their own country’s culinary offerings is evident as it gives them a chance to show their housemates their origins.
