Congratulations dear parents!
You have made it through to the first half-term break! The prospect of being responsible for your child’s activities may seem daunting. With a few basic rules in place, this can be the perfect opportunity for families to spend quality time together. It is recommended that parents should try to be 80% consistent with parenting strategies but also flexible enough to let some things go.
Keep the routine. It is very important to stick with your bedtime schedule. While it might be tempting to stay up late and sleep in on a morning it will negatively affect your child’s mood and wellbeing.
Encourage reading every day. It can turn into quality time if you read together and discuss stories afterwards. We recommend 15 minutes reading daily for primary students.
Time outdoors. With the current Covid situation we strongly recommend all families to try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Get some late autumn sunshine and try to have fun in the parks.
Screen rules. It is normally recommended that you let your children have 1 hour of screen time during weekdays and 2 hours of gaming during weekends. As during half-term school is off it is fine to stick with weekend rules just to make it easier for your family. Several half-hour blocks are better that binge viewing. And no screen time at least one hour before bedtime.
