Book Week 2021 This year, World Book Day fell on 4th March 2021. At BST we celebrated our love of reading over three days: 3rd – 5th March. From EYFS to Y6, English lessons for the whole week were based on the wonderful ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt. All of the children were invited to write letters to the crayons to persuade them to return to their classrooms. Some of the teachers even dressed up as crayons for our dress up day parade!

This year, World Book Day fell on 4th March 2021.

During the week, children celebrated their love of reading by wearing their pajamas to school for a snuggle up and read day, through live virtual workshops with author Nick Toczek from England and by hosting a book swap within their year groups.

Throughout the week, children were challenged to take part in different competitions such as:

  • Extreme Reading where children were dared to ‘Get Caught Reading’ in weird and wonderful places.
  • Shoe Box Dioramas are a yearly favourite at BST. The children were asked to make a diorama of their favourite book.
  • A new and exciting challenge for BST this year was to create ‘Wooden Spoon Characters’ – The children were tasked with creating a character out of a wooden spoon or even tell a story with a full set of characters!

The week ended with another virtual visit from author Nick Toczek who delivered a whole school assembly live from England! The children and teachers all got into the spirit of world book day by coming into school dressed as their favourite book character…or crayon!
