Unsung Hero – Ms. Regina Shakirova – Head of Cleaning Ms Regina started working at BST 7 years ago in April 2015. Her attention to detail, enthusiasm, and pride in her work meant she was quickly promoted to Head of Cleaning Services once BST moved to the Kalandar Campus.

Ms Regina started working at BST 7 years ago in April 2015. Her attention to detail, enthusiasm, and pride in her work meant she was quickly promoted to Head of Cleaning Services once BST moved to the Kalandar Campus.

Prior to working at BST, Ms Regina was a stay-at-home mum, to Diana and Artur (now 19 and 15). No one would believe that soon it will be Ms Regina’s 20th wedding anniversary!
Ms Regina comes from a Tartar background and is an excellent dancer. She is particularly good at Baskazi Apepay dancing and it was whilst she was dancing in a discotheque at the age of 18 that she met her husband, Mr Radik.

It was love at first sight for him and he asked her to dance and proceeded to ask a million questions including her phone number. She did not think much of the encounter but was impressed when he began taking a taxi from Qarshi to Termez (275 km) once a week for 6 month to date her. She was even more flattered when after a few dates the first present he gave her was a unique gold ring.

Ms Regina says that she liked that Mr Radik was mature, working as a committed Military Officer, manly and responsible. Oh and also the fact that he showered her with presents and was very considerate. Within 6 months they got married and proceeded to move around the country due to her husband’s work.

They settled in Tashkent 10 years ago, and Ms Regina realized the children had grown up and didn’t need her as much anymore. They requested she be less clingy/protective and find a job to occupy herself. At this point she adopted the lovely Musia (cat) and promptly applied for a job at a cleaning company after seeing an advertisement.

Ms Regina loves working at BST as she feels she is always treated with respect by students, staff and parents. She feels like she is a part of every student’s success at BST not just the one in charge of cleaning. She is truly proud of the BST community and when recruiting new team members she always looks for very active, self motivated and conscientious workers.

When Ms Regina was young she wanted to be a Doctor as her mother was a Nurse. However, after she met Mr Radic, he told her that whether she studies to be a Doctor or not he didn’t want her to work but look after the family instead and he would provide for her. Therefore, the loss of the medical profession is BST’s gain and Ms Regina certainly has all the qualities a good Doctor would – empathy, excellent communication skills, organised, diligent, a team player and always ready with a smile.

Thank you Ms Regina in helping BST stay safe and open! We look forward to your dancing at the next staff party.
