Over the last few weeks, the Under 16 boys team have been competing in preliminary rounds of a football tournament. Each team played 4 games and BIS Under 16s won all of their matches. The other teams who participated were, St Paul's, BVIS, UNIS and Olympia. The semi-final and the final were held at St Paul's American School last weekend. The boys comfortably beat St Paul's 0-7. They then progressed onto a nail biting final against BVIS. BIS played outstanding football and had numerous opportunities to score with some very near misses. They led 1-0 but with only 2 minutes on the clock, BVIS equalized! After five minutes extra time the score stood at 1-1. This led to a climatic penalty shoot-out. BIS stepped up first scoring a comfortable well placed penalty. BVIS scored their first and both teams scored their second. The third, very tense penalty was taken by BIS and we scored. The pressure was tangible as BVIS stepped up for their last penalty. The crowd went silent. BVIS stepped up to the ball, shot, the crowd erupted, BIS were ecstatic, our fantastic goal keeper saved the shot to leave us 3-2 winners in the penalty shoot-out. The boys were outstanding from start to finish. They played with a maturity beyond their years and did their coach, Mr Atkinson, and themselves and the school proud. What a remarkable achievement. Congratulations BIS Under 16 boys.
