Our BIS Vision is for all members of our community to be ambitious for themselves and others. At present, we are in the process of recruiting teachers from the UK and other international schools for the next academic year. Some of the new teachers are needed due to expansion at BIS and others to replace a small percentage of teachers who feel it is time to leave Vietnam and explore new adventures in other international schools. Although I am in search of outstanding teachers, I am also looking for dynamic members of staff who are always seeking to improve and learn from each other so that we continue with our ‘Be Ambitious’ philosophy.
In a recent Teach Meet held on Saturday 6th January, our current dynamic team of teachers proved once again that they are enthralled by learning and enjoy sharing ideas and skills. The event was for all our teachers and teaching assistants and involved colleagues delivering presentations both in small group sessions and to the whole staff. New resources were explored, for example our ‘mega map’ for geography, and new methods introduced to ensure lessons are adapted for our EAL learners. Exciting new plans to enhance our library and other learning areas were explored and strategic plans for integrating subjects through a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) initiative were presented. The day proved to be inspirational and enjoyable and I would once again like to thank Nicola Witton for organising this event.
Developing our Bus Service
Further professional development was held on Monday 8th January, this time the target audience was our bus drivers and bus monitors. Ms. Nga is constantly reviewing our bus service in order to improve provision further. Comments made by parents have focused on communication, safety and adherence to policies. These were the areas covered in a two-hour session held at BIS. Ms. Jinny, our Korean liaison, delivered a session on ways of communicating, how to pronounce names which are not Vietnamese and cultural expectations. Ms. Nga covered BIS expectations and a reminder of child protection and safety issues.
SEA Regional Admin CPD
13 members of our staff from departments including: Marketing, Facilities, Accounts, Maintenance and Purchasing went to Regents International School Pattaya, our Nord Anglia Education School in Thailand, to take part in professional development sessions over the Christmas holidays. This provided a chance for a sharing of good ideas amongst Nord Anglia schools in the South East Asia region and was rated highly by our staff.
As you can see, 2018 is really proving to be a good year for learning together!
