On September 12, our Friends of BIS parents group went on a tour of the Hanoi Old Quarter to celebrate the Moon Festival. They had a wonderful time strolling through the streets of the Old Quarter and experiencing the Moon Festival like a local. Thanks to the tour, we were able to see many friendships beginning to form within our parents’ community!

The tour started with sightseeing at Hoan Kiem Lake for our parents to observe traditional Hanoians’ daily life. They then soaked up the sights and smells of the bustling Old Quarter while being educated on the meaning of street names and being fed interesting and little-known facts on landmarks by the tour guide.

After getting to Hang Ma street, our parents immersed themselves in the colorful Moon Festival market just like the locals! They even bought some traditional lanterns and masks so that they could do a real celebration at home with their families. It was delightful to see that they were enjoying the market and embracing the Vietnamese culture!

The market led to Phung Hung Mural Street, a cultural road with beautiful mural paintings recalling Hanoi’s past. Especially for the Moon Festival, numerous colorful lanterns had been put in place the street which made it really stand out and look extra special!

The tour finished off with our parents enjoying some delicious Vietnamese cuisine including Bánh xèo, Shrimp rolls, Bún chả and many more. Despite the hot weather, the parents’ positive attitude and willingness to throw themselves into the Hanoian culture made the tour enjoyable for everyone!

If you missed the Hanoi Old Quarter Tour this time, don’t worry! There will be more exciting activities for parents throughout the year ahead!

Please contact us if you would like to find out more about the Friends of BIS group. They have regular activities and special events that they put together to ensure that not only students, but parents can also be welcomed into the BIS community.
