Congratulations Graduating Class of 2021! Congratulations and well done to all Year 13 students who have now completed their exams. Thursday brought a close to the IB examination session and all our students should be applauded for their focus and hard work through this intense period. I hope you can all relax now as you begin to prepare for the next phase of your lives. We look forward to celebrating your graduation next weekend with you all.

Primary STEAM and Key Stage 3 Project Days 

It has been an exciting week of learning at BIS Hanoi with projects week in KS3 and STEAM days in Phase 1, 2 and 3. In Primary, Mr. Allison has led three Phase STEAM days for Primary students from Years 1-6. During these days, the students took part in a range of challenges. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths and the projects our students have been immersed this week have all these subjects woven into them. When students make connections in learning, it deepens their understanding and through STEAM, our students can develop skills in individual areas and deepen their broader understanding. Problem-solving, creativity and collaboration underpin STEAM curriculum and as you will read more from our Specialist Teachers, in addition to the learning, students certainly had a lot of fun too! To read more about STEAM week in Primary click here.

Across Key Stage 3, Performing Arts, PE, STEAM and Art planned project days for the students and set them exciting challenges. The PE department asked students to design and record their own workout after learning about the benefits of fitness and circuit training. It is important during Virtual School to ensure we are all still moving and avoid becoming too sedentary; exercise is so important for our physical and mental wellbeing. To read more about KS3 Project Week click here.

Virtual Walk/Run from Hanoi to HCMC 

It is not just Key Stage 3 students who have been focusing on physical exercise, Ms. Jasmine (Y1), Ms. Hill (Y4) and Ms. Doors (MFL) set BIS Hanoi staff a challenge recently. In teams, staff must complete a Virtual Walk from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh over the coming 4 weeks. It aims to keep staff moving and fit during VSE and also to raise money for the National Children’s Cancer Hospital in Hanoi.  

Our amazing support team, admin staff and teachers all signed up and are in groups tracking their walks and runs every day. Everyone is wearing a mask and adhering to the health and safety guidelines currently in place; some staff have even been clocking up 10km in their own apartments in an evening.  

It is a fantastic initiative, where every kilometre counts. Only tracked walks and runs count - not daily step count! Some teams have already banked 500km which is the equivalent of walking to Hue in a week. It is certainly a healthy way to relax and switch off after a busy day of working while supporting an important local cause. I will keep you updated on how the groups are doing over the coming weeks.
