Year 1 Trip to Bakery Land

17 November 2015

As part of our IPC topic on food, Year 1 went on a trip to Bakery Land to see how food is made in a professional kitchen.

The children had a wonderful time visiting the bakery where they got to see what a big kitchen looks like and meet some real chefs, before putting on aprons and become chefs themselves for the morning. The children were shown how to make cupcakes, learning the names of the ingredients in both Vietnamese and English. Then they got to make the cupcakes themselves with guidance from the chefs on how to measure the flour, butter and sugar.  They learnt how to crack the eggs and how to put the mixture into the cases, ready to go in the oven. While the cupcakes were cooking and cooling, they learnt how to make the bright coloured icing for decorating. They had great fun decorating their own cupcakes, making them look beautiful with the icing and sprinkles. The children listened well to the instructions and were great representatives for the school. The best bit was that they got to take the cupcakes home afterwards to enjoy them!
