Secondary Update – Mr Jack Rudin – 17/11/2017

17 November 2017

Dear Parents,

Our programme of events to support students in their journey towards university and the world beyond school continued this week. On Thursday evening Mr Curran our Universities and Careers counsellor spoke to parent and years 10 to 13 students about the process of applying to university in countries around the world, with tips ranging from what they need to do to find the best fit for them academically and socially to how they much get help with funding. Kindly find the below link for your information about the content that we shared in this seminar.

Also on Thursday this week a group of Year 12 students were treated to a seminar by Joeril Mol - a professor from the University of Melbourne. He spoke to the students about the importance of networking in business and, through the medium of superheroes, showed them that we are more connected to the rest of the world than perhaps we think!

Week 4 of BVIS Masterchef saw some really great cooking. 13V Group 2 took on board some of the skills they had learnt last week, and using their creativity and some excellent teamwork, they created 3 delicious dishes. Unfortunately, there could only be one winning team and that was Vinh and Dang who prepared a delicious dish of Chinese-style prawn toast. Although it was a fairly simple dish, it really stood out for its depth of flavour and has earned them a much coveted place in the BVIS Masterchef Final.

The U14 Table Tennis squad played another friendly competition against CIS on Wednesday. 14 squad members played a number of singles and doubles matches, showing great progression from the start of the season. The U14 Table Tennis squad is incredibly competitive this year with over 20 members so it was a great opportunity for some new players to test themselves against CIS’s best players! Jimmy and Quan playing in their first ever competitive Table Tennis matches played brilliantly. Huy Anh, Benly and Rony continued their very consistent and impressive form winning the majority of their singles and doubles matches. Player of the day goes to Messi who showed great composure and some really effective serving in both his singles and doubles matches. Well done to all those involved!

Well done to all the students who took events and have worked hard on their extra curricular activities. It is sometime easy to forget that our what excellent work our students do in the classroom and in their academic studies.

Over the last couple of week I have had the great pleasure of handing out certificates to students who have achieve awards from Cambridge Assessment for getting best grades in Vietnam in ther As and A level examinations last year.

LAM Tien Long achieved the highest grade in Vietnam in AS level in Physics and AS level in Computer Science

NGUYEN Tan Bao achieved the highest grade in Vietnam in AS level Geography

NGO Thanh Lam achieved the highest grade in Vietnam in A level  Geography

TRAN Phuong Uyen achieve the highest grade in Vietnam in A level in Physics and also achieved the amazing feat of gaining the best A Level grade in across Three Cambridge International A levels. This is a truly impressive achievement. Any A level is difficult to do well in but to gain the highest grade in the country and to do this in a range of subjects is outstanding.

All of these students deserve our warmest congratulations.

Have a great weekend.
